The Father and Daughter combination who head up our
helicopter publications are together the most knowledgeable
and experienced journalists in the industry. Both are
winners of the Helicopter Association International
“Excellence in Communications" Award and have spent almost
their entire working lives in the helicopter industry.
Elfan ap Rees took his first helicopter flight in 1960, is a
qualified helicopter pilot with more than 80 types under his
belt and, after several years freelancing for various
aviation journals, launched
HELICOPTER International
in 1977, followed by
HELiDATA News and
Classified
in 1980 and then
Military Helicopter
News
in 2005. He also founded the
Helicopter
Museum, now the world's largest dedicated rotorcraft
collection, in the 1970s and continues to chair the Trustees
and to sponsor its growth. He is also a past president of
the FAI Rotorcraft Commission and a vice president of the
Helicopter Club of Great Britain, which represents private
owner interests in the UK . In addition to the HAI Award
Elfan was also presented with the British Helicopter
Advisory Board "Eric Brown" Trophy in 2002 for his
contributions to the industry and received the American
Helicopter Society "John Schneider" Historical Award in 2007
for his work in promoting rotorcraft history.
Elfan continues to contribute widely to the media at large
on rotary wing subjects and has acted as Chairman of the
annual IQPC Defence Military Helicopter Conference in London
for the past several years.
Claire ap Rees joined her father's company in 1985 and since
then has headed up the behind-the-scenes publishing team
that produces the
Avia Press range of journals. Her extensive
knowledge ensures the accuracy and credibility of each of
the magazines, in particular
HELiDATA Classified where
she oversees the entire content and production. Claire also
liaises with the worldwide network of correspondents and
this dedication has given the publications an unsurpassed
reputation in the industry for accurate news coverage and
advertising.
